Common questions about construction estimates.

How do I use this estimate template?
Type your company name, the client, and the line items (description, quantity, unit, unit price); the totals and tax calculate live. Then download the result as a clean PDF to send the client, or as a CSV that opens in Excel or Google Sheets if you want to keep editing there. Nothing to install and nothing to sign up for.
What should a construction estimate include?
Your company name and contact, the client and project, an estimate number and date, a validity window, itemized scope with quantities and prices, subtotal, tax, total, and your terms (deposit, exclusions, how changes are handled). The template covers each of these; the notes box is the right place for deposit terms and exclusions like permit fees.
Estimate vs quote vs bid: what is the difference?
In everyday use: an estimate is an approximation that may move as scope firms up, a quote is a fixed price offer, and a bid is a formal response to a tender. This layout works for all three; what changes is the wording of your terms, so state clearly whether the price is fixed or subject to revision.
Is the PDF professional enough to send to clients?
Yes, that is the point: a clean one-page layout with your company name on top, an itemized table, totals, and terms, readable on a phone. No watermark, no branding of ours anywhere on it.
Can I edit it later or save it?
Download the CSV alongside the PDF: it reopens in Excel or Google Sheets with every line intact, so you can revise and re-total there. The browser form itself does not store anything after you leave the page, by design.
Is my client's data uploaded anywhere?
No. The form, the math, and the PDF generation all run in your browser. Names, addresses, and prices never touch a server, which is more than most template sites can say.
How should I price the line items?
The common patterns are labor and materials as separate lines, unit pricing (per sq ft, per fixture), or lump sums per phase. Whichever you use, keep quantities honest and visible: itemized estimates win jobs over single mystery numbers, and they cut down disputes later.
Is it really free?
Yes. No accounts, no watermark, no paid tier hiding the download button. It runs on your device, so it costs us nothing to let you use it as often as you like.

The estimate wins the job. The photos win the disputes.
