How do I convert a photo to black and white?

What is the difference between black and white and grayscale?
In practice they produce the same result here: the color is removed and every pixel becomes a shade of gray from pure black to pure white. "Black and white" is the photographic term, "grayscale" is the technical one. This tool does both.
Can I control the contrast and grain?
Yes. After the photo is converted you get the full slider set: brightness, contrast, vignette, and blur. Raise contrast for a bold, high-impact mono look, lower it for a soft, documentary feel. The Mono preset is a ready-made high-contrast starting point.
Will the output keep full resolution?
Yes. The on-screen preview is scaled to fit your screen, but the downloaded file is converted at the original image resolution. A 24-megapixel photo downloads at 24 megapixels in black and white.
Which output formats can I save to?
JPEG (smallest, most compatible), PNG (lossless), or WebP (modern compact). JPEG and WebP are encoded at 92% quality, which is visually identical to the preview on screen.
Can I convert iPhone HEIC photos to black and white?
Yes. iPhone HEIC images are decoded in the browser first, then converted like any other image. Output is JPEG, PNG, or WebP.
Will the conversion strip EXIF or GPS?
Yes. Canvas re-encoding removes the EXIF block. If you want to keep metadata, convert a copy and keep the original. If you want EXIF gone for privacy, this tool clears it as a side effect.
