Common questions about adding text to images.

How do I add text to an image online for free?
Drop a JPG, PNG, WebP, or HEIC image onto the editor. A first text layer appears in the middle: type your words, then drag the text anywhere on the photo. Adjust font, size, color, outline, shadow, and opacity in the panel. Click Download image. Everything runs in your browser; the image never uploads.
Can I add more than one text to the same photo?
Yes. Click + Add text for each new layer. Every layer is independent: its own words, font, size, color, effects, and position. Click a layer on the photo (or its chip in the panel) to select it, then edit or drag it. There is no layer limit.
How do I make text readable on a busy photo?
Three tricks, all built in: give the text a contrasting outline (white text with a black outline works on almost anything), enable the drop shadow, or increase the size. The defaults (bold white with a 2px black outline) are chosen to stay legible on most photos.
Which fonts are available?
Five families that render identically across devices: Sans (clean, modern), Serif (editorial), Mono (typewriter), Impact (bold meme-style headlines), and Script (handwritten look). Each can be bold, italic, any color, any size up to 200px in the preview, and scales to full resolution on export.
Can I write multiple lines of text?
Yes. Press Enter in the text box to start a new line. Lines are centered as a block, and the whole block moves together when you drag it. For independently positioned lines, use separate text layers instead.
Does the downloaded image keep full resolution?
Yes. The preview is scaled to fit your screen, but the export re-draws the original pixels at native resolution, with text positions and sizes scaled to match exactly what you saw. A 4000 px photo downloads as a 4000 px photo with crisp text.
Is this text-on-photo tool really free? Any limits?
Yes. No accounts, no daily caps, no watermark, no file size limit. The editing happens in your browser using canvas; nothing uploads. We never see your image.
What formats can I download?
Keep the original format, or convert to JPEG, PNG, or WebP at export. JPEG and WebP quality is adjustable from 50% to 100%; PNG is lossless. If the source has transparency and you export JPEG, the transparent areas become white.
Will EXIF metadata (date, GPS) survive?
When the source is JPEG and the output is JPEG, the Keep EXIF toggle (on by default) carries the original date, GPS, and camera tags into the result. PNG and WebP outputs do not carry EXIF because browser encoders do not write it for those formats.
Can I add text to iPhone HEIC photos?
Yes. HEIC files are decoded in the browser automatically before editing. Export as JPEG, PNG, or WebP; the file downloads straight back to you without any upload step.
How is this different from the watermark tool?
The watermark tool stamps one repeated text or logo mark across a photo (or a batch) to protect it. This editor is for free-form text: captions, titles, announcements, memes, greeting cards, with as many independently styled layers as you want. For copyright marks, use the watermark tool; for everything else, use this one.
