How do I convert a PSD to PNG without Photoshop?

How can I open a PSD file someone sent me?

Is the PSD uploaded anywhere?

Does transparency survive the conversion?

Are layers preserved?
No; PNG is a flat format, so you get the flattened result of all visible layers, exactly what the design looks like. If you need to edit layers, that requires Photoshop or a PSD-capable editor like Photopea or GIMP.
Why does my PSD fail to convert?
Almost always because it was saved with Photoshop's 'Maximize Compatibility' turned off, so no flattened copy is embedded in the file. Ask the sender to re-save with the default setting, or open and re-save the file in any PSD-capable editor; it will then convert fine.
Can I convert several PSD files at once?

Is there a file size limit?
No hard limit. Large multi-hundred-MB PSDs work because the tool skips the layer data and reads only the embedded flattened image, which keeps memory use modest.
